Dennis is a large coastal town in Barnstable County, eastern Massachusetts, United States. The town is bordered by Cape Cod Bay to the north, Brewster to the northeast, Yarmouth to the west, Harwich to the southeast, and Nantucket Sound to the south. It consists of five villages: Dennis, Dennis Port, East Dennis, West Dennis, and South Dennis. The town was settled as the East Precinct in 1639, incorporated in 1793, and named for Rev. Josiah Dennis. Dennis is a seaside tourist destination. It is home to The Cape Playhouse, where Humphrey Bogart performed. It is also one of the oldest summer theatres in the country. Points of interest in the town include Scargo Tower, 1736 Josiah Dennis Manse Museum, Corporation Beach, Mayflower Beach, Princess Beach, Nobscussett Beach, Crowes Pasture Conservation Area, Dennis Pines Golf Course, Cape Cod Museum of Art, etc. Barnstable Municipal Airport and U.S. Route 6 serve the area.
