York is a coastal town situated in the southern end of the state of Maine, United States. Located 44 miles south of Portland and 65 miles north of Boston, it is a popular resort town with a few attractions, beaches, and golf clubs. The town was settled in 1624 by Europeans, incorporated in 1652, and has a total area of 131.78 sq mi (341.3 km2). It was originally called "Agamenticus". Points of interest in the town include Nubble Lighthouse, Short Sands Beach, Long Sands Beach, Mt Agamenticus, Ledges Golf Club, York Golf & Tennis Club, Old York Historical Society, Bog Road Fields, Wiggly Bridge, Fisherman's Walk, Civil War monument, and Elizabeth Perkins House.
