The city is bordered by The Mystic River to the southwest, Island End River to the west, Mill Creek to the north, and Chelsea Creek to the east. The city is only 3.5 miles away from Boston Logan International Airport and less than 5 miles from downtown Boston. It was settled in 1624 and incorporated as a city in 1857. The area was originally inhabited by the Naumkeag tribe for thousands of years.
