It is located in the central part of the county. The city was incorporated in 1882 and named for Lewis Kingman, a civil engineer. The city is home to an extension campus of Northern Arizona University. Local attractions include the Welcome to Kingman sign, the Hualapai Mountain Recreation Area, Monolith Garden Trail, White Cliffs Wagon Trail, Metcalfe Park, and the Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area. The city was also used as a filming location in Roadhouse 66, Universal Soldier, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
