Yangon (sometimes referred to as Rangoon Division or Yangon Division) is an administrative region situated in the central part of Lower Myanmar. A large part of the region is occupied by the capital city of the country, the city of Yangon, which is the largest municipal area in Myanmar. The region of Yangon is considered to be one of the most developed and most internationally famous parts of the country, with a number of large industrial businesses and international educational establishments opened there. It is divided into 4 major districts, the Western, the Eastern, the Southern, and the Northern.

Geographically, the region of Yangon is situated in the center of Lower Myanmar, which embraces the lowlands of the coastal area of the country. To the south, the region faces the Gulf of Martaban. To the west, it shares borders with Ayeyarwady Region, and to the east, it is bordered by Bago Region. The total area of the Yangon region is estimated to be close to four thousand square miles. Yangon Region is also considered to be a transportation hub of the country. Yangon International Airport and Yangon Central Railway Station serve the area.
