The name of the valley comes from the name of a local epic princess Cocora, and the valley is a part of a large natural preserve known as the Los Nevados. The valley is famous for its special eco system and beautiful scenery. There are plantation of wax palms growing in the area, which are also preserved by the national governments. Fauna of the valley is very interesting, with a population of tapirs, sloths, pumas, and other exotic animals living there. Every year, about 150 thousand people come to enjoy the views and explore the nature.
