The city of Plattsburgh, "The Lake City", is the seat of Clinton County, northeastern New York, United States. It is located on the shore of Lake Champlain and 100 miles south of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Saranac River also passes through the city. The city was incorporated as a village in 1815 and as a city in 1902. It was named for Zephaniah Platt who was an American politician and the founder of the town of Plattsburgh. The city has a total area of 6.59 sq mi (17.08 km2). It is home to SUNY Plattsburgh (The State University of New York College at Plattsburgh). It is also home to Clinton Community College.
