Paro Taktsang, or Tiger's Nest, is a historical building and an ancient monastery located high in the Himalayas, in the valley of Paro in western Bhutan. The first monastery was built there at the end of the 17th century and was dedicated to a Buddhist monk who was reported to meditate over 3 years. The monastery was built near one more attraction, known as Tiger Caves where other monks practiced their meditation as well. The monastery is situated about 6 miles away of Paro town, and it is nested on a rock about 10 thousand feet high over the sea level. It is one of the most known landmarks of the country and the place where a number of festivals and cultural events take place on the annual basis.
