Situated in the westernmost part of the Pacific Ocean, Palau National Marine Sanctuary is one of the world's largest land and marine natural preserve which includes both the lands of about 340 islands of Palau, as well as large territories of the waters of the ocean around the country. The park covers the total area close to a half million of square kilometers and is on the list of 20 largest natural parks and nature preserves on the planet. The park was established in 2006 but three years later a new Palau Shark Sanctuary was created there too. Actually, the protected area includes not only fauna and flora of the territory but is also a special economic and business zone.
