Owensboro is a city in Kentucky, United States, situated on the southern bank of the Ohio River, in the northwestern part of the state. It is the seat of Daviess County and home to Kentucky Wesleyan College. The city was settled as Yellow Banks in 1797, founded as Owensborough in 1817, and incorporated in 1850. The area was originally inhabited by The Shawnee before the Europeans came.
