North Okkalapa is one of the most famous northern outskirts districts of Yangon which is one of the largest and the former capital city of Myanmar (known also as Burma). North Okkalapa is a community situated about 9 miles north of the central part of Yangon city, just near a large international airport, Yangon International Airport, which is one of the key transportation links of the whole country. The district is divided into 19 wards and has a few interesting landmarks and tourist attractions. North Okkalapa shares borders with the townships of Mingaladon, Hlegu Township, and others. The area of the town is estimated to be about 11 square miles which also makes the township one of the largest communities in the neighborhood of Yangon.

The township is a relatively new one and it was established in the middle of the last century as a small settlement near a newly built railway station. Later on the airport has been built and the area has become one of the key transport hubs of Myanmar. There are a few great hotels and excellent fast food selling facilities like Maydawi Street Shan Noodle Shop Cafe or Aero Coffee & Bakery which can be found near the airport and the railway station of the town. The township of North Okkalapa is really famous as the place where a few great educational facilities can be found like the National University of Pharmacy or the National University of Medicine of Yangon. Finally, there is a great new hospital in the town, The North Okkalapa General Hospital, connected with the medical university of the town.
