Gretna is a city in eastern Louisiana, United States, situated on the Mississippi River in the neighborhood of New Orleans. It is the seat of Jefferson Parish as well as one of the largest cities in the parish. It is also a part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area. The city was settled as Mechanikham in 1836. It is home to Milestone Sabis Academy and a public library. Gretna was used as a filming location in "A Love Song for Bobby Long" starring Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta. The city hosts a cultural festival: Gretna Heritage Festival.
