Cherokee is a city in Iowa, United States, located in the northwestern part of the state, 120 miles southeast of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and 55 miles east of Sioux City. It is the seat of Cherokee County. It was incorporated on April 5, 1873, and named for The Cherokee, the indigenous peoples of the Southeastern Woodlands. There are a few sites that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the city: Phipps Site and Cherokee Sewer Site. The city hosts a few annual festivals like the Jazz Festival and Creek Fest.
