It is the seat of Dickinson County and is known as the hometown of Dwight David Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States. The city was founded in 1857 and incorporated in 1869. Abilene is located near two main highways, Interstate 70 and K-15, which is why it is quite easy to reach the city. It is about 140 miles west of Kansas City.
