It was released on February 25, 2004, grossed $622.3 million worldwide, became the highest-grossing Christian film of all time, as well as nominated for 3 Oscars including "Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score" (John Debney). The Passion of the Christ was shot in Basilicata, Italy. Additional filming took place at Cinecittà Studios in Rome.
