Tekridag is a large city and the capital of Tekirdag Province, situated in north western Turkey, on the shores of the Marmara Sea. The city is famous for its port and numerous sunflower fields surrounding it. Tekirdag is an old city established by Samian population in the 9th century. It can be found about 90 miles west of Istanbul. Modern day's Tekirdag has the population close to 180,000 people, and it is a transportation and education spot. Despite being located on the sea shores, the city is not a resort but rather an agricultural and service center of the region. The city is a home to a few archaeological museums, as well as to a few old examples of historic Ottoman architecture.
