Selangor is one of the states of Malaysia located in the western part of the country. It has a total area of 8,104 km2 (3,129 sq mi). In its western part, Selangor overlooks the waters of the Strait of Malacca. To the north, it shares borders with the state of Perak, and to the south Selangor is bordered by the state of Negeri Sembilan. In its eastern part, the state of Selangor shares borders with the state of Pahang. The area of the city of Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital of the country and is literally located in the central part of the state, has a separate administrative division and is considered to be the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The city of Shah Alam is the capital of the state and it is located quite close to the city of Kuala Lumpur.

Other large cities of the state include the ones of Rawang, Sungai Buloh, Samanyih, Sari Kembangan, and Cheras, as well as a number of coastal cities and ports like Port Klang, Kuala Selangor, and so on. The state has an administrative division that includes 9 districts of Selangor, namely Petaling Jaya, Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang, and a few smaller ones. Geographically, the state is located mainly in the lowlands and has plenty of green areas around it. It also has a few protected areas. Points of interest in the state are Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, Kanching Forest Waterfall, Sepang International Circuit, Batu Caves, Kuala Selangor Nature Park, and so on.
