Pena Palace is a famous landmark and a historic palace which can be found in the town of São Pedro de Penaferrim, in Sintra municipality in the western Portugal. Pena Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the area, visited by large number of tourists and visible from the capital city of the country, on a clear day. The palace was constructed in the Middle Ages and used to be a residence of the local Royal families. In the 17th-18th century there used to be a monastery there, but in the middle of the 18th century it was damaged first by lighting and then by the Lisbon earthquake. Later on the palace was reconstructed and re-built and now it is one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal, as well as a castle used by the Presidents of the country for some official events.
