Nanga Parbat is one of the ten tallest mountains in the world, and it is situated in so called Pakistani Himalayas in north eastern Pakistan. The elevation of the mount is close to 26,660 feet and it is considered to be the ninth tallest mountain on the planet. The locals named the mount "Dia Mir" which from the Sanskrit means "a very large mountain". The mountain is one of the tallest peaks of the western Himalayas, and there were many attempts to climb it in the early 20th century. In summer 1953, an Austrian climber was the first to climb Nanga Parbat, and since then there were many successful climbing attempts. It is interesting that climbing the mountain in winter turned out to be quite a challenge, so it was only in 2016 when a group of Italian alpinists managed to ascent.
