Hasankeyf is an old historic town situated in the province of Batman, in south eastern part of Turkey. Situated near the river of Tigris, Hasankeyf is a very old settlement, with the history going back to the Bronze Age times. The town thrived during the rule of the Roman Empire, and there is an old bridge preserved in Hasankeyf since those times. The area was then ruled by the Byzantine Empire, Muslim Khans and Mongol Khans. Since the middle of the 16th century the town has been governed by the Ottoman and Turkish people. There is a large number of archaeological sites and landmarks in the town and around it, including the citadel, the old bridge, a historic hamam, the Ulu Mosque, a few castles, tombs, old mosques, and so on.
