Fatehpur Sikri is a large historic town situated in the neighborhood of Agra in the easternmost Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in the late 16th century as a new capital city of the Mughal Empire. However, after a few unsuccessful military campaigns, the town was not developing much until the 17th century, when the population started growing and plenty of new buildings started being built. Till now, some of those like Buland Temple or some old towers are preserved. In the 19th century, Fatehpur Sikri was under the rule of the British who established a cultural and administrative center there. Since the times of independence, the town has been a tourist destination which attracts plenty of visitors with its beautiful old architecture.
