Downtown Portland is one of the central districts in the city of Portland in Oregon, situated right on the western banks of the river of Willamette, bordered by the districts of Union Station and Portland State University area. This is a green district where plenty of the city's skyscrapers, business and office centers, shopping and commercial facilities can be found. Downtown Portland covers quite a large area estimated to total over 2.5 square miles and occupying most of the central part of the embankment of the Willamette River. The southernmost part of the area is occupied by a large campus of Portland State University where the famous Portland State University Library is located. In the south, the district meets the area where Portland Union Railway Station can be found.

Since Portland is called 'the City of Bridges', its central part of Downtown Portland is the place where it is possible to find many large bridges of the city. Those are the Broadway Bridge, the Steel Bridge, the Burnside Bridge, the Morrison Bridge, the Hawthorn Bridge, and the Marquam Bridge, all crossing the river of Willamette and connecting the area with the urban zones of the eastern banks of the river. In its western part, the downtown area is bordered by Interstate 405, and Interstate 5 passes across the southeastern part of the district.
