Based on the book "Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice" by Adam Makos, written for the screen by Jake Crane and Jonathan A. Stewart, and directed by J. D. Dillard, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022, and was released on November 23, 2022, in the United States. Devotion was shot in Georgia and South Carolina, USA. The ship scenes took place on USS Yorktown, a museum in Charleston Harbor, Mt Pleasant.
