Arroyo Grande is a small coastal city in San Luis Obispo County, California, USA, located 84 miles northwest of Santa Barbara, 117 miles west of Bakersfield, and 196 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The area was originally inhabited by the Chumash. It was incorporated on July 10, 1911, and named for Big Dry Creek. It is a known tourism center that offers excellent small private hotels and clean private beaches. Points of interest in and around the city include Strother Park, Soto Sports Complex, the historic IOOF Building, Lopez Lake Recreation Area, Oceano Dunes Natural Preserve State Park, Pismo State Beach, and so on.
